Partners in Health Care
Volunteers share a vital role in the mission of St. Mary's Hospital. They support the hospital in a commitment to provide a full range of health services with high-quality care in accord with the mission of SSM Health Care and the Franciscan Sisters of Mary.
Volunteers make a difference through services that help patients, visitors, and employees within the hospital. We hope you will join us as a volunteer and share your time and talents, develop new skills, learn about health care professions and meet new people while serving the community.

Patient-focused Volunteers Wanted
St. Mary’s Hospital is looking for volunteers to help with Patient Discharge Services and the Steady Strides Joint Replacement program. These volunteers will help support staff who provide direct patient care and therefore help enhance our patients' experiences. These services support nurses and therapists so they can spend more time at the patient’s bedside.
The new Patient Discharge Services volunteer will transport patients leaving the hospital and help maintain a smooth flow of patients through the discharge process. These volunteer shifts are Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. - noon; 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; or noon - 4 p.m.
Our new Steady Strides (Joint Replacement) program volunteer position is ideal for pre-occupational and pre-physical therapy college students, although it's not limited to people in those fields. In addition, we are seeking adult volunteers to assist in this area. Working along-side the occupational and physical therapist, volunteers assist staff and patients in exercise and educational classes, serve as a coach, attend luncheons and assist in discharging patients.
If interested, please apply online. Select the patient care volunteer option.
Ronald McDonald Family Room Volunteers
The Ronald McDonald Family Room® located in St. Mary’s Hospital opened in 2012 and is one of the largest Family Rooms in the United States. It is a place where families whose children are inpatients at St. Mary’s hospital can get away for a moment to gather their thoughts, rest and relax, have something to eat and drink and yet be just moments away from their child’s bedside. Family Room volunteers help to extend the mission of the Ronald McDonald House Madison by providing warmth and comfort to families in a time of need.
The commitment of being a volunteer in the Ronald McDonald Family Room is an important one. Volunteers provide reception for families and offer hospitality for families using the Family Room at St. Mary’s Hospital. Due to the high importance and responsibility of this volunteer position, an application for service as well as extensive training is required.
Family Room volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and willing to make a one-year commitment.
