Madison, Wis. – St. Mary’s Foundation has received a $2.1 million bequest from the estate of Helen Rupp, a long-time friend of St. Mary’s Hospital.
Rupp first was introduced to St. Mary’s when she was recruited to join the hospital’s advisory board while working at the Wisconsin State Journal. She would further strengthen this relationship while serving later on the hospital’s development board.
Helen and her husband Earl have made numerous donations to St. Mary’s over the years including a gift in 1998 to help fund the purchase of portable ultrasound equipment. After Earl’s passing in 1998, Helen established a charitable trust which in March of 2010 led to a donation of $479,000. The $2.1 million estate gift is in addition to these other donations.
“Both Helen & Earl were dear friends of St. Mary’s Hospital and with their very generous gifts, they will continue to impact the compassionate care delivered here for years to come,” says Sandra L. Lampman, the executive director of the St. Mary’s Foundation. “It’s a wonderful feeling to know that someone felt so strongly about the care they received here that they would make a significant gift like this and that it may inspire others to do the same.”
Donations to the St. Mary’s Foundation have made immeasurable impacts to the community, by helping to establish the Dean & St. Mary’s Stroke Center (the first of its kind in Southern Wisconsin), kick-starting the construction of both the hospital’s new east wing and the Care Center with capital campaigns, funding the purchase of 12 Giraffe Omnibeds for the neonatal intensive care unit and even constructing the beautiful Gardens of St. Mary’s.
